Ruth and Aaron's cottage is the PERFECT East Coast escape.

Coming from Halifax, this was the exact break from everyday hustle and bustle that my partner and I were seeking this Summer.

You could not ask for better hosts, more privacy, better location or a cozier place to escape to.

The pictures listed do not do this cottage justice! The lake pictured, you have ENTIRELY to yourself and it is absolutely breathtaking. There is plenty of room with all of the amenities (and more) for a "rustic" cottage including a fully stocked kitchen, lovely dining nook, couches, comfy beds, a full shower and bathtub, potable water (and spring drinking water provided), well lit in the evenings, a BBQ and fire pit, canoe and kayak, hammocks, outdoor seating and lots of books provided! Lots of little extras too, that will surprise you on your arrival.

The bugs were quite abundant during this abnormally humid summer we've had but there was plenty of protection including a screened porch to keep them out of the cottage. Also what should be noted, cell phone reception is nil and about 15-20 mins drive away, there is no television and only a small radio, this suited us just fine and we found the break from technology overwhelmingly welcomed even as young professional's (usually screen heavy) who were weary of this aspect.

Our advice: Don't hesitate to book this cottage! We were pleasantly surprised by every aspect of this property and our experience.

This has the most beautiful scenery! We loved the lake, waterfall & kayaking. We stayed when the Celtic Colours festival was going on. A great time to be in Beddeck!! Lots of music & the trees was changing at it's peck. This cabin is about 30 mins. from the college so it was close enough to all the action. Aaron & Ruth was very friendly and commentating to us.

We loved our stay at Ruth and Aaron's cottage. It's very conveniently located at a short distance to many scenic beaches and hiking trails, as well as the Cape Breton national park, but honestly the property itself is so huge and beautiful that we barely wanted to leave. The cottage is surrounded by meadows, forest, streams, a beautiful waterfall and a big private lake that we swam in every day. The cottage itself was cozy and simple, and accommodated our group of five comfortably. Ruth and Aaron were great and thoughtful hosts: they were available if we needed anything and they gave us great recommendations on nearby activities. I would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking to visit Cape Breton, or even just to spend a relaxing week in nature.

A tranquil and beautiful piece of paradise, off the beaten track but central to the Cabot trail and close to Baddeck, which we found to have the most tourist activities for a single town on the trail. Being central to the island gives you good access to the Bras D'Or lakes, Sydney and Louisburg but once you see the property you won't want to leave. Ruth and Aaron are very welcoming, the cottage is basic but with every ammenity you might expect. Close by are the artisan studios of the Cabot trail which you can peruse at your leisure before driving the trail. On the property is a beautiful waterfall that is so stunning you might expect it in a national park. Enjoy the peace of the lake in one of the owners canoes or by taking a swim in stunning surroundings. Just Wow!

The property is easily accessible but it can feel like you're a great many miles away from civilisation. A great place to go and leave the world behind for a little while. There's no internet or even cell coverage at the cottage, even the radio only gets a couple stations, so the disconnection from the outside world is good. When we found we needed a little outside world, the town of Baddeck (which is just as charming as it seems) was only a short drive, and it had all the amenities we needed.

Otherwise the private lake and waterfall are great for a little dose of nature, and incredibly convenient, and longer hikes are very nearby as well. The Highlands National Park is relatively close too (the drive to get there is gorgeous itself, worth making the trip just for that).

The sleeping loft is a lot of fun but would probably only suit kids, and it got pretty hot up there with the wood stove on. The cottage stays pretty cool though, we were there in July and the sun never heated the cottage up too much. The property has a large lawn, but the deerfly were out when we were there so it wasn't the most helpful. The meadow across the road made for some great stargazing though.

All in all, a great place to change your speed and relax. Comfortable, and an excellent base from which to explore Cape Breton.
