After splitting our time between Tobermory Cottage and Huron Cedars (our other rental cottages) for 4 years, in 2016 we decided to build a third cottage drawing on our favourite elements of those two cottages. Orchid Trail is our dream cottage. Designed by Linwood Homes in Delta B.C., the award winning design captures the feel of the west coast of B.C. and is right at home among the cedars along the shore of Lake Huron.

The cottage features a large open concept kitchen, dining and great room with two story views of Lake Huron and Youell Island 200 feet offshore. Orchid Trail is hybrid conventional / Post and Beam construction, featuring dramatic laminated Douglas Fir support and ridge beams. The positioning of the cottage captures sunrises in the morning and sunsets from the screened porch.

This cottage features three bedrooms (king in the master suite, queen in the second bedroom and single/double bunks in the third bedroom). All of the rooms in the cottage are finished with local materials, v-match cedar ceilings from Manitoulin Island, Red Pine floors milled at Crane River, wall material and doors salvaged from the original barn and cottage on the lot.

The outdoor space includes over 900 square feet of decking and a screened porch for dining. The shore consists of flat rock making water entry easy and Youell Island provides shelter from the wind keeping the water reasonably calm even on windy days. The property is extremely private, neither neighbor is visible from the cottage.
