Summer 2022 is booked!
Our cottage provides an escape for mature couples and FAMILIES with CHILDREN seeking a luxurious getaway nestled in nature and century old trees! Our 4 season SMOKE/VAPE FREE cottage is 1600 sq ft, 4 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom, spotlessly clean bungalow with every modern convenience. It is situated in a peaceful setting on a private road, 30 feet from the water's edge on a gently sloping lot. New for the 2020 season is a single/double bunk-bed in one of the bedrooms - the top bunk is suitable for a child. The other three bedrooms offer a king and double beds.

We are located on clean Salmon Trout Lake on a private gravel road which is 50 m from a gravel Township road. There's no traffic or road noise so your kids and dogs can play outside safely. We have easy year-round access which makes it possible to get to the cottage even in the winter. We're also fully insured AND all of the pictures on this site are current - in other words, any surprises you have will be good ones! We cater to families (adults with kids) or couples, NEVER to adult-only groups.

Our location on Salmon Trout Lake invites you to explore outdoors. The lake is a natural Walleye hatchery which also has Small Mouth Bass and Sunfish. The lot is gently sloping with a sandy entrance to the water, perfect for beginner swimmers. You can swim to our trampoline (where the water's depth is about 10-12 ft.) and practice your cannonballs (the trampoline will be taken out following Labour Day). The water gradually gets deeper as you walk out from the shore and offers excellent current-free swimming. The water's depth at the end of our new cedar dock varies from about 4 ft in the driest of summers to a more typical 5-6 ft in most summers. Many guests enjoy shallow diving from the end of the dock or using the ladder to gradually and gently enter the water. There are some short weeds at the end of the dock, but not tall, lanky ones like some lakes have. The sandy, shallow entry is safe for toddlers and children!

If you're looking for a peaceful retreat on a quiet lake, look no further! From the moment we arrived we were in awe. The cottage was spotless and fully equipped with high-end appliances, linens and furnishings. There are special little decorative touches throughout each room, you can feel all the love and care that was put into this cottage. We came up as a family of 4 and everyone had a wonderful time. I most enjoyed watching and listening to the loons on the lake with my morning coffee. The hot tub was a real treat in the evenings, you can star gaze while soothing tired muscles from your days adventure. We had a couple of rainy days, but there is a variety of games, books and DVD's to keep everyone entertained. Liz is an excellent host and so thoughtful in every detail. She made us feel like we were home away from home. We look forward to coming back to her cottage for our next family get away. Thank you Liz!

Hi Amy, Thank-you for your great review and for taking the time to write it! We are pleased that you all had a restful, enjoyable family getaway. As you know, we try very hard to make our guests' experiences fabulous - that's what a holiday should be about. No worries about the cleanliness of the bedding, lack of cleaning supplies or basic baking ingredients or spices, or whether the knives in the kitchen will actually cut anything - lol - no one should have to be concerned with these things when they are on holiday. It also makes us feel good to rent out our beautiful cottage to people such as yourselves who are appreciative of our efforts, very respectful of our possessions, and thoughtful in every way. You and your family are welcome back anytime!! Thanks again!

We have stayed at Summerhill many, many times. We are now a multi-generation family with the youngest being 18 months. The rooms are all on one level and there are very few steps which, as Seniors, we appreciate. The cottage is located close to the water on a serene and beautiful lake. Liz and Ray have made a number of improvements (not reflected in the photos on the listing), such as a new deck and patio door in the kitchen - lakeside, a new dock, and new bunk beds in one of the bedrooms (single over double). They have also updated the décor and furnishings in the sunroom and kitchen, all of which enhance the elegance and comfort. The play structure up the private road was perfect for our toddler, and well used. The cottage was spotless, with extra attention paid to sanitizing given Covid. Paper products were provided which meant lighter packing for the renter and a smooth transition from home. The kitchen is so beautiful, updated, well stocked and perfectly laid out, with every gadget and tool one would wish for. This was the hub. I especially value the generator as our daughter uses life sustaining medical equipment. There are so many exceptional amenities here, which is why we keep returning. Thank you Liz and Ray for sharing your cottage - our home away from home.

Hi Linda, Hosting you and your family is always a pleasure! You and your family are appreciative, considerate, respectful, and clean - what more could anyone ask for? I am so glad that your grandson was able to use our play structure. It was a lot of work installing it, but knowing that it is being used and enjoyed makes it all worthwhile. As you mentioned, we try to provide everything in our cottage kitchen that we have in our home so that our guests don't have to worry about packing kitchen papers or cleaning products. And since we live nearby, it's easy to provide any supplies that may run out during a guests's visit (although that's unlikely since I personally replenish all supplies between guests). The generator really does provided peace of mind and it is not an amenity that many cottage guests appreciate - until there's a power outage, that is! In cottage country, outages are much more frequent and lengthly - sometimes for more than 24 hours - than in the city. We are surrounded by trees which often fall on power lines and transformers. Without power, there's no lights, water, heat, air conditioning, toilet flushing or TV, all things we take for granted in our everyday lives! Thanks for the great review, Linda - we look forward to hosting you again next summer!

From the moment we opened the door to Summerhill Cottage, we were enthralled with its setting and beautiful view of the tranquil lake. The cottage itself was a delight - clean, spacious and warm, thanks to its pine interior. Everything set a welcoming note, and there were many thoughtful touches provided by our hosts, Liz and Ray. The lake was lovely to swim in, with a nice sandy bottom for wading in and a ladder for easy entry. We enjoyed fabulous meals, which were easy to prepare, thanks to the cottage's remarkably well-stocked kitchen and convenient BBQ. Evenings were enjoyed sitting on the dock with a cocktail, watching the sunset, the peace broken only by the loons in the distance. The cottage is stocked with lots of water toys, board games and activities to keep everyone happily occupied and the hot tub is a great addition. Beds were extremely comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep. Summerhill Cottage is a wonderful place to escape from the city and re-connect with family. We highly recommend it. Thank you Liz and Ray!

Hi Julie,
Thank-you for the great review! We are so happy that you and your family enjoyed our cottage and the amenities that we offer. Whenever we travel we are especially appreciaitve of comfortable beds, linens, and well stocked kitchens, so we try hard to ensure that our guests are comfortable on their holiday by providing that things that we would want ourselves. Escaping the city and having the chance to reconnect with family and recharge our batteries is what a holiday should be all about. See you again!

I spent an amazing week at Summerhill Cottage in July with my two sons. From the minute we entered the cottage we felt like we were in a place to call home (temporarily). It is obvious that Liz & Ray take pride in the cottage, it is clean, in excellent repair and there is nothing you could possibly need that isn't already there or that won't be delivered promptly to you with a text. I couldn't have asked for more, truly a fabulous experience. Early morning swims, coffee on the dock, canoeing, SUP, hot tub, relaxing by the camp fire, awesome BBQ'ing, board games. I have already booked my week for next year!! Thank you Liz and Ray for being so attentive!

Hi Shari,
We're so happy that you and your sons had a great time at the cottage! There isn't a nicer compliment to hear than that you felt like you could call our cottage your home from the minute you entered - even if it was only for a short time. We work hard to make the cottage welcoming so that our guests can relax and enjoy their time away from the city and their usual routines. You ticked off a lot of boxes that people put on their "must do at the cottage" list, and we're delighted that we'll be welcoming you back next August for more of the same! We appreciate you taking the time to write your review - thanks for coming!

My husband and I stayed 5 wonderful nights at this beautiful cottage to relax after the busy Christmas season. First time stay and we know there will be many, many more. The owners were quick and easy to communicate with, answering my many questions (sorry, Liz - thanks for your patience). Pride of ownership was evident when we walked in the door. So clean and organized with lots of information provided. Beautiful view of the lake and lots of areas to walk around and explore. The weather wasn't top notch during our stay. There was a threat of an ice storm with possible power outages but we knew the back-up generator would keep us operational, if needed. During this time, we enjoyed access to the great satellite system available. The kitchen was a joy to cook in - knives were sharper than our own!!! I dare anyone to name one item that is missing from this amazingly stocked kitchen. Furniture was so comfortable and lots of room for quiet reading, foosball and the many games provided. The beds and pillows were super comfy. And, of course, the hot tub was the icing on the cake. Well maintained, roomy and so very relaxing on a wintry night. We've stayed in many rentals over the years but this one is at the top of our list. Thank you for sharing your beautiful cottage and ensuring your guests have a wonderful stay at Summerhill Cottage. We can't wait for a return visit. All the best for 2020, Liz and Ray.
