Please read: We rent our cottage only to mature couples and families with children seeking a clean, luxurious getaway in a peaceful setting. We do not rent to adult-only groups or young people (under 30) who intend to party. Our SMOKE/ VAPE FREE cottage is a 1600 sq ft, 4 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom, spotlessly clean bungalow with all modern conveniences. Situated on a private road, nestled in nature and century old trees and 30 feet from the water on a gently sloping lot. Kids love our single/double bunk-bed and the other three bedrooms offer a king and double beds. We also have a private playground for children under the age of 12 and a large playing field suitable for volleyball, frisbee, or soccer. We have walking and biking trails throughout our 40 acres of mature forest.
BOAT RENTAL: a 14' ALUMINUM BOAT AND 9.9HP IS AVAILABLE FOR RENT AT $250/WEEK, ONE TANK OF GAS INCLUDED and a waiver must be signed.
We are located on clean Salmon Trout Lake on a private road which is 50 m from a gravel Township road. No traffic, highways, or road noise so your kids and dogs can play outside safely. We have year-round access so it is easily accessible in winter. We're fully insured AND all of the pictures on this site are current - in other words, the only surprises you have will be good ones!
Located half way between Toronto and Ottawa and 20 miniutes from Bancroft, Salmon Trout Lake is a natural Walleye hatchery which also has Small Mouth Bass and Sunfish. Our lot is gently sloping with a sandy entry to the water, perfect for toddlers, novice swimmers, or seniors. You can swim to our RAVE trampoline (where the water's depth is about 15 ft.) and practice your cannonballs (the trampoline will be taken out following Labour Day). The water gradually gets deeper as you walk out from the shore and offers excellent current-free swimming. The water's depth at the end of our cedar dock varies from about 4 ft in the driest of summers to a more typical 5-6 ft in most summers. Many guests enjoy shallow diving from the end of the dock or using the easy step-ladder to gradually and gently enter the water. There are some short weeds at the end of the dock, but not tall, lanky ones like some lakes have.
We are booked far in advance for many reasons. We have many sought-after amenities: HIGH SPEED INTERNET/WIFI, an 8 person Beachcomber HOT TUB, a pillow-top KING sized bed in MBR, a screened-in cedar GAZEBO (equipped with lighting, auxiliary power, and loveseats), an automatic, full-house GENERATOR, a professionally designed gourmet granite kitchen, JOTUL gas log fireplace, 4 piece family bathroom with heated floors, luxurious cotton bedding, quality mattresses and wrap-around down pillows in all four bedrooms, and a BONGO RAVE water trampoline in July and August! We love to cook, so our kitchen is fully equipped with accessories that a professional chef would expect: an assortment of top quality pots & pans, very sharp knives, a 2022 Fridgeaire INDUCTION range, all imaginable kitchen gadgets, small appliances, etc, and a top-of-the line, huge 2022 NAPOLEAN BBQ right off the kitchen. We love our morning coffee and we have three different types of coffee makers for your enjoyment: Keurig, drip, and French Press! Of course there is also a coffee grinder. If you're wondering if we have a particular appliance or kitchen accessory, ask. If we don't have it, we'll try to get it!
In addition, we have drinking water from every tap, central heating/AC, high-end stainless appliances, a Maytag washer and dryer, 55" flat screen 4K TV with HD satellite and 162 channels (including CRAVE and the Movie Network), quality furniture, foosball, and lots of water toys including: 10' RAVE water trampoline until Labour Day, 2 adult kayaks, a SUP (or two), a child's sit-on kayak (or two), a pedal boat, assorted sizes of life jackets and safety kits for all watercraft. We have a floating cedar dock which can moor a 20' boat, and we offer the following baby supplies: high chair, booster seat, diaper pail AND our own private PLAY STRUCTURE and PLAYING FIELD just up the road for toddlers and young kids. We provide everything you need for a relaxing getaway. Simply pack food, beverages, and personal items. We supply you with enough quality toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, kitchen papers, food storage bags, cleaning products, dishwasher pellets and dishwashing soap, laundry detergent, BBQ propane, and kindling/firewood (enough for one week of EVENING campfire burning as restricted by local by-laws). We take pride in our cottage and work hard to ensure that it is well maintained and spotlessly clean, with enhanced cleaning protocols in place since COVID. You'll find nothing broken or worn out in our cottage. If you want to return, you should leave the cottage tidy - it is NOT a hotel although it may seem like one! Before you leave you are expected to: wipe kitchen counters, clean spills from the oven, range, and refrigerator shelves, VACUUM, remove garbage and put into garden shed, burn off grease/sauce from the BBQ, and strip beds that were used - really not very much, especially compared to many other rentals I have stayed in myself! If you can help out by laundering the towels (especially the beach towels) on the night before departure, it would be helpful. I spend 6 hours cleaning, restoring and restocking the cottage to the spotless, "model home" condition it was in when you arrived, so I appreciate your assistance. This ensures that Summerhill is always in tip-top shape for your return and for our next guests!
DOGS: permitted, but only if you are a responsible owner! We love dogs and own two Goldens, but our generosity allowing guests to bring their dogs has been abused by some. We have experienced damage from renters' dogs over the years, especially to our hardwood floors. Maximum of TWO dogs, big or small, and no dogs or puppies that are NOT housetrained! Dogs are NEVER welcomed onto our leather sectional. We supply a doggy blanket with which to cover our sofa or bed (if allowed by you!), but if scratches or other damage is done to the leather because you have allowed your dog(s) onto the sofa, you will be charged the cost of repair - about $600. Outdoors, your dog must be under your control at all times (as required by local by-laws). You must "pick up" after your dog and never allow him onto the water trampoline (yes, we've had guests do that!). You must also agree to vacuum the house thoroughly upon departure.
LOCATION: 2 hours, 45 minutes from Toronto or Ottawa and 20 minutes north of Bancroft, which has a HOSPITAL, many restaurants, live theatre, grocery shopping, two Tim Horton's, LCBO, Beer Store, and Algonquin Craft Brewery AND less than ten minutes to the quaint General Store in Maple Leaf. For a list of many outdoor winter activities (horseback riding, snowmobiling, dog-sledding, etc.), visit https://ridethewilderness.com
PLEASE READ: Everything in Summerhill Cottage is top quality. If you are planning on partying, don't ask to rent! It's a family cottage and I rent only to mature couples or FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN so that they may experience Ontario's cottage country in a comfortable, luxurious, clean setting. NO PARTIES, groups of adults, or "guys only" week-ends! Maximum of nine people, children included. Guests must clean up after themselves and leave the house tidy - ask if you don't understand! I am NOT OBLIGATED to rent to you because you have requested to book.
SUMMERHILL IS A FRIDAY TO FRIDAY RENTAL. "Couples only" week-ends are welcomed in the off-season at the reduced rate of $700 - families with small children MAY be considered for week-ends in the off-season; otherwise, WE RENT ONLY BY THE WEEK.
We have BELL HIGH SPEED INTERNET/WIFI and excellent cell phone service (Bell and Telus provide the best service - Rogers isn't great). NOTE: our WiFi is NOT provided for gaming or streaming. We provide satellite for that. WiFi is for business.

| Once again, Summerhill Cottage did not disappoint. This was our second time staying at Summerhill, during family day weekend with our Daughter, Son-in-law and two grand sons aged 5/7. And Piper, our black Lab. We now call this beautiful piece of paradise ?The Winter Cottage?. It's like our own cottage further north, with ALL the comforts of home, and more. Mother nature performed with LOTS of fluffy beautiful snow, which allowed us to toboggan, make snow angels, and watch come down as we soaked in the hot tub. Ahhhh!! Thank you Ray for plowing ?Volkar Run? to perfection. We shoveled a good sized rink for skating on beautiful SalmonTrout Lake and enjoyed some ice fishing as well. When the winter fun is done for the day, time to relax inside this beautiful cottage with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing, comfy, cozy, enjoyable stay. Liz and Ray provide it all, right down to a doggy blanket for your fur baby, and a complimentary bottle of wine. Crisp clean towels and linens along with laundry appliances, really come in handy when snow suits and mittens are constantly wet. We even enjoyed making s'mores at the outdoor fire pit provided. And the view!! Just wow! There isn't a wall in the cottage that doesn't provide a view of Mother Nature. Liz and Ray are very welcoming, accommodating hosts and quiet to provide answers to all your questions. We were sad once again to leave. But if we don't leave, we can't go back. Rent this cottage. It does not disappoint!!!

Owner response: Hi Kathy, Thank-you for the wonderful review! We love to rent our cottage to families such as yours that are considerate, appreciative of our efforts to provide a "home away from home," and who leave the cottage in such super condition upon departure. Mother Nature certainly came through this Family Day week-end with huge amounts of fresh snow and cold, seasonal temperatures, allowing ample opportunities for tobogganing and skating on the lake. The hot tub is definitely a luxurious way to end the day after spending many hours outside enjoying a beautiful Canadian winter. And there isn't a nicer or more appropriate way for multiple generations to enjoy each other's company for a few days than at a nice cottage on Family Day week-end! Thanks again for returning, and we look forward to hosting you again!

| This was our second Christmas spent at Summerhill and it was just as good as the first time. From comfy beds to great appliances and all around perfection this cottages stands alone. We absolutely love it there. I cannot wait to finally appreciate Salmon Trout Lake in the Summer or Fall . This lake is very quiet , one of the reasons why we will continue to come back. Thanks Liz ( sorry I forgot to write A review sooner )

Owner response: Hi Brian, Thanks for writing a review - it doesn't matter to me when you get around to it, your feedback is welcomed and appreciated at any time! We're delighted that you enjoyed our comfy beds and modern kitchen appliances. We take pride in the upkeep and maintenance of our cottage and are always looking at it with a critical eye to ensure that it stays updated, clean, and in good repair. | This is our second rental at Summerhill, and it did not disappoint once again! Such a well equipped cottage inside and out, everything we needed was supplied, and lake toys galore! Beautiful, scenic on the lake spot with Muskoka chairs on the dock for R&R listening to the loons, and campfires in the evening. Take a dip in the lake off the dock, or from the water trampoline, then warm up in the hot tub. Cottage and grounds well looked after. Thanks, Ray & Liz.

| We have rented Summerhill for the last 4 summers. This is a great cottage with all of the amenities you could ask for. Liz and Ray have always been extremely responsive for any (very minor) issues we have had. The water is great, a shallow, sandy beach area for the kids to splash, a water trampoline and great dock with shady area under the tree cover for shade. We have rented other cottages in the past but none have compared to Summerhill.

Owner response: Hi Danielle - it was great hosting you again and we are delighted that you have chosen to return next summer for the fifth time! Your family is a perfect match for our cottage - lots of things for the kids to do (swimming with our water toys, foosball, playground, walking/biking trails in our forest, quiet spaces for the adults (hot tub, gazebo, dock, paddling on a SUP, etc), and, of course, paradise for your fur babies! We appreciate the respect you show for our cottage and all of the amenities. Thanks again - see you in 2024!

| We rented Summerhill Cottage over March Break with our three kids and loved everything about our stay. The cottage is beautiful, clean, and spacious. It is equipped with everything you could possibly need and Liz even had a very clean pack and play and high chair for our baby. Our kids loved snowshoeing and sledding on the amazing toboggan hill. The owners plowed a rink on the lake for us which was so nice. We have rented quite a few cottages over the years and this was definitely our favourite. We look forward to returning!

Owner response: Hi Jennifer, Thanks for taking the time to leave a review and share your thoughts! We really appreciate hearing that our guests enjoyed their holiday at our cottage. It tells us that we're accomplishing our goal, and that is to provide a carefree, fun holiday in clean, comfortable surroundings with little packing required! We are the parents of four grown children, and we remember how long it would take us to pack up for a holiday, so if we can help by minimizing what you have to pack, we're happy to do so! Bring your toiletries and clothing, buy your food, and that's about it! Your family was a great match for our cottage: appreciative, clean, fun-loving, and respectful. We look forward to hosting you again!
