The Space
Enjoy a straightforward, peaceful getaway on historic Amherst Island. This is a fully private, 2-bedroom house attached directly to our main farmhouse. Please note: this is a semi-detached setup sharing one central wall with the owners. You have your own completely private entrance, parking area and living space, fully equipped kitchen, and bathroom.
• Capacity: Comfortably sleeps up to 6 guests.
• The Vibe: This is an honest, down-to-earth rural getaway. Staying here means being close to nature and embracing a real country setting.
An Authentic Working Farm Experience
We live on the other side of the house and run an active, working farm. This means you will experience a true rural environment. You will get to enjoy the incredible, deep quiet that Amherst Island is famous for, alongside the natural day-to-day sounds of country life:
• Daytime Activity: Expect to hear farm machinery, tractor activity, and animal noises during the day.
• Shared Wall: Because we live on the other side of the central wall, you may also occasionally hear the lively, everyday noises of a young family.
Island Life: Stepping Back in Time
Visiting Amherst Island feels like stepping back in time to a world where things happen more slowly. There are no traffic lights here—just wide-open spaces, friendly waves from passing locals, and a slower, gentler pace of life. The island offers wonderful local amenities to discover during your stay:
• Sand Beach Wetlands Conservation Area: A beautiful 54-acre protected area featuring a boardwalk, stunning marsh views, and an unsupervised sandy beach with crystal-clear water perfect for walking, relaxing, and swimming.
• The Back Kitchen: A charming, community-led, not-for-profit restaurant that serves as a wonderful hub for seasonal dining and meeting islanders.
• Amherst Island General Store: Located in a historic 1820s building in the village of Stella, perfect for grabbing fresh goods, snacks, and local treats.
• Neilson Store Museum & Cultural Centre: Immerse yourself in island history and browse unique, local artisan crafts at the accompanying Weasel & Easel shop.
• Exploration: Bring your gear! The flat, quiet island roads make this a paradise for cycling, birdwatching, and relaxing deeply in nature.
Amenities & Cottage Features
• Wi-Fi Available for your browsing and connectivity needs.
• Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water conveniently available right at the kitchen sink.
• Fully Equipped Kitchen: We provide all the cookware and dishes, but please bring all your own consumables (food, spices, oils, etc.). Important Note: There is no grocery store on the island, so we highly recommend you provision and shop on the mainland accordingly before taking the ferry!
