Welcome to the Loon Lagoon Cottage on Mary Jane Lake near the village of McKellar. This 3 bedroom 1 bathroom cottage is the perfect location for your family to unwind, relax, play, explore, and make memories.
The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen with a stove, fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and DISHWASHER, because no one wants to do dishes at the cottage. There is a propane BBQ on deck for all your grilling needs.
The first and second bedroom both have a queen sized bed, and the third bedroom has a bunk bed, and twin bed. If you need more sleeping space the sunroom has 3 full sized couches, and a door for privacy. The sunroom also has a TV and DVD player with a large selection of DVD's should you have a rainy day on your visit. There are also lots of puzzles and games located in the third bedroom. The cottage building is practical but not luxurious, you wont find granite countertops here, and the shower is original to the cottages build in 1984. But we have added some creature comforts of a dishwasher, air conditioning, and Starlink internet access.
The beach area has a sandy beach for your little ones to splash in the water, and the dock and floating raft will be enjoyed for hours of summertime swimming. The beach is also really nice if you're like me and need to enter the water inch by inch rather then jumping off the end of the dock.
The cottage has 2 kayaks, 2 paddleboards, a canoe, and an aluminum row boat with oars. There are a variety of lifejackets in the lakeside shed that you are welcome to use but we recommend bringing your own to be assured you'll have a properly fitted jacket. Lake Mary Jane is a quiet spring fed lake. While there are no rules about motor boats and jet skis they are rarely seen on the lake as avid watersport enthusiasts prefer larger lakes. Lake Mary Jane has pike, bass and perch fishing available. If you're visiting with little ones I recommend getting worms in McKellar and fishing for sunfish from the dock. Protip, I still don't like touching fish, but if bring an old rag for home it makes handling the sunfish much easier.
The sitting area down at the beach has a outdoor table and chairs as well as lounge furniture. You'll also find a firepit here for evening fires. Please respect any fire restrictions/bans that may be in place over the summer. You'll notice signs on highway 124 entering McKellar that will list fire restrictions if the weather is particularly dry.
The cottage sits on nearly 4 acres of woods to explore, or I'd also recommend the Balsam trail in McKellar. It's a 5 km hike with hidden Gnomes along the way. You can read more on Facebook at Balsam Trail Gnomes
The cottage is 25 minutes from Parry Sound that has lots of big box stores and interesting little shops to explore. If you love books (and a treasure hunt) I recommend Bearly Used Books. A trip to Parry Sound isn't complete without a trip up the old Fire Tower Observation Point for a beautiful view of the surrounding area - and even better the observation tower is free to visit. Finally lots of visitors have enjoyed the scenic boat trip on the Island Queen Cruise out of the Parry Sound Harbour.
Our cottage has been the source of family memories since 1984,and we're excited to extend the same opportunity to your family as well.
