Barrett Chute Cottage (located 10 minutes from Calabogie Village) is a beautiful 4 season house (completed March 2018) situated on a 6.5 acre treed lot surrounded by water on 3 sides. It is a relaxing and natural cottage setting perfect for gatherings Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall. In addition to swimming and boating the cottage is well suited for golfing, hiking, fishing, ATV, snowmobile and ski getaways.
Facing south-west the cottage looks directly up the Madawaska river providing a spectacular river view and sunsets you will enjoy from the deck. Approximately 1800 feet of private shoreline lines a quiet bay on one side and the open water of the Madawaska river on the other. Sport fishers and boaters will enjoy a twenty kilometer reach of scenic, sparsely populated waterway from Barrett Chute Cottage all the way to the south end of Norcan Lake. From its origins in Algonquin Provincial Park, the Madawaska flows untouched by urban or agricultural development into Calabogie Lake. The natural beauty of the area is unrivalled.
Guests can enter the water by walk-in areas, off stone steps or off docks. Guests have full access during their stay to a paved boat launch (private to owners and renters) located adjacent to the property which includes use of a 50 foot dock. There is a large parking area for multiple vehicles including space for trailers hauling ATVs, snowmobiles or boats. There are paths throughout the property for exploring and interesting rock outcrops scattered everywhere around the peninsula. The fire pit surrounded by large stones is located at the waters edge and is perfect for a get together after a day of fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, skiing, hiking or any of the other outdoor activities. Firewood is provided. A propane BBQ is available for outdoor cooking. For outdoor eating and lounging the cottage offers an L-shaped upper deck as well as a large lower deck facing the river, accessible from the walkout. There are two 8 foot picnic tables as well as a large patio table with seating for 10.

Inside, the cottage offers approximately 4000 square feet of living space with two full bathrooms (note one is an en-suite) and two half baths. There are 6 spacious bedrooms in total, two on each floor. The two bedrooms on the second floor each offer enough space for a family of four to stay together. The Great Room has a spectacular view and offers a variety of seating options. There is also a seating area located in the loft where guests can relax and take in the view of the Madawaska river. The kitchen is fully stocked and includes an island for eating. There is also a large dining area with an extended table suitable for larger groups. There are two fridges with freezers to hold food and drinks for your stay.
For indoor entertainment the open concept walkout is equipped with foosball, ping pong, electronic dartboard as well as a bar table and stools and tv area. There are two 65" large screen smart televisions in the cottage and Wi-Fi is available throughout the cottage. Bell Satellite with many channels is also provided for our guests. The cottage is heated by forced air for the cooler months and can be cooled with air conditioning on the hot days of the summer. Two large ceiling fans circulate air throughout the main area and ceiling fans are also located in each of the main and second floor bedrooms.
Bath towels beach towels, and bed linens are provided for each guest. A washer and dryer are provided for guests to use if required. Starter amounts of paper products such as toilet paper and paper towels are supplied. A selection of coffee and teas are provided for our guests. A master key is provided but the cottage can be entered using a code provided to guests for the duration of their stay.
A 50% deposit is required to confirm the reservation (Full payment is required if booking is within 30 days of arrival). Balance is due 30 days before arrival along with a refundable security deposit of $750 which will be returned within 7 days upon inspection of the property.
Barrett Chute Cottage is a family cottage located in a peaceful outdoor setting and is not meant for parties or gatherings where loud noise or music is an issue with the other residents. Barrett Chute Cottage's maximum occupancy is 12 persons. The maximum number of adults allowed is 8. We rent to families and responsible adults. We do not rent to large groups of singles. Rates are subject to change.
The area:
The village of Calabogie has all the necessities for your stay including gas station, LCBO/Beer store, drug store, hardware store, grocery store and restaurants (including the Blackbird Cafe, Redneck Bistro and Brown's Pub). Burnstown public beach is located only 25 minutes away from Barrett Chute cottage. Live music can often be found at the Neat Coffee Shop. In the area there are many trails for ATVs, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, hiking and cross-country skiing. Eagles Nest Trail is an easy 1.5 km hike along an old logging road that climbs gradually uphill, through the woods, leading to a spectacular lookout at the top of a 120 meter cliff.
The Madawaska River is carefully regulated through a system of dams. Barrett Chute dam is the fourth last in the series before Arnprior and is located approximately 1km downstream from Barrett Chute Cottage. Based on historical data, water levels during the summer can fluctuate to a maximum of 15 cm.
