HISTORY Built in 1842 by the TESKEY Family who immigrated from County Cork, Ireland as part of the Peter Robinson settlers. They were an Industrious family who built a saw mill, grist mill & woolen mill & later sold to the COLLIE family who built a multi million textile trade. In the 1980s, the Canadian textile market was outsourced internationally & the Manor became bankrupt. In the 90s it reopened as a Bed & Breakfast.
In 2012, Julie & Gary purchased the home & built a private in law suite so they could rent the larger side of the manor as a vacation rental. Both sides are completely private & separate. Because we live on site, we can help you quickly if you have a problem. On your arrival, Gary gives you an orientation tour. Gary managed the KEG restaurant for 14 years & he's an excellent cook who specializes in meat (roasts & turkeys). Gary can cook a meal for you served buffet style in the formal dining room.
YOUR HOSTS, JULIE & GARY They bought the Old Mill Manor in 2010 after meeting the owner through Julie's cat. The manor was too big for 2 people so created a large rental suite. 5 years later the suite became vacant so they moved in & rented out the larger side of the manor to vacationers. We both worked full time jobs & the manor kept us very busy. Exhausted, they tried to sell everything in 2013 to live on a sailboat but the manor didn't sell so they rented out both sides & moved onto a 36ft Sailboat & sailed from Toronto, down the Eerie Canal & the ICW to Florida & crossed to the Bahamas with their cat, LG. It was a good experience but we now prefer to live here!
GUEST COMMENTS FALL BRIDE, Kaitlyn G, 2019 The Old Mill is absolutely perfect. I stayed here the night before and the night of my wedding. I felt like a princess. The entire house is just beautiful, down to all the little details. I spent the night before the wedding relaxing in the hot tub and sitting with my family around the fire. The owners had set the formal dining table for us and we felt like royalty. The house is huge and had space for my bridal party and family. I had my makeup artist and hair stylist there the day of the wedding. They had so many options for places to set up. For getting ready photos, this is the perfect atmosphere. Huge windows, gorgeous furniture. Everything you could need. I cannot say enough good things about the Old Mill and the owners. They have done a wonderful job making this a dream place to stay. My now husband and I are so excited to come back in the future!
Aug. 2018, Sarah R. Idea spot for a vacation with the outlaws. Plenty of rooms to accommodate 9 adults and a dog. 2 kayaks and a canoe were supplied in front of the manor on the Mississippi River. The salt water pool and hot tub were used daily & enjoyed immensely. The two small towns nearby (5 minute drive) were very close for groceries & eating out. Plenty of different types of restaurants to choose!
June 2015, Sandy S. Very beautiful, spacious & quaint house filled with all the essentials needed!! For 11 ladies we didn't have to fight for a bathroom!! Spa like atmosphere & very welcoming. The fine details were very much appreciated. It was so nice to have many awesome places to sit and relax. Thank you for having a lot of things set up for us including firewood!! Totally a place we would recommend.
Thanksgiving Family Reunion Oct. 2018, Lynn Chang Plenty of room for 11 of us. Thoughtful hosts coordinated our tasty catered turkey dinner through the Beckwith Kitchen & also set up fishing rods for the kids (my son caught one!). A bit cold for kayaking but the watercraft looked tempting! Nice bike ride to Carleton Place along fun and easy path, part of it freshly paved.
A BIRDER'S PARADISE, Flo Hayes, 2015 The Usual Birds: cardinals, chickadees, blue jays, juncos and redpolls (winter), house finches, mourning doves, hairy and downy woodpeckers, crows and ravens, but not so many blackbirds and no pigeons or house sparrows! We were happy to observe less frequent city residents such as Orioles, warblers, wrens, purple finches, nuthatches, flycatchers, a great variety of the smaller sparrows (white throated, white crowned, song, chipping and on), pine siskins, catbirds, flickers, pileated woodpeckers, and so many hummingbirds. Occasionally a wild turkey or two would wander close. And over two winters there were snowy owls in the area. Occasional visits from: indigo buntings, rose breasted grosbeaks, Carolina wrens. Water bird visitors:Kingfishers, osprey and great blue herons found good fishing, and for a few weeks we had a large flock of the smaller green herons. There were the usual mallards, Canada geese, seagulls, but ducks I had never seen before, including golden eye and the beautiful wood ducks (some nesting in trees along the lane). Were delighted by occasional loons and heard their haunting cry, especially in the night, along with unseen owls and night herons.

Note: Located in the quiet Village of Appleton on the Mississippi River. The Old Mill Manor is accessible from a private lane on the Mississippi River. We have 150 feet of private waterfront close to the Hydro Dam. We have private docks for kayaking, swimming & fishing. The town's public diving rock dock is directly across from our dock. The locals fish & swim here. Every Canada Day weekend, fireworks are launched from our dock & the town watches them from the public dock. Beautiful fireworks! | Absolutely amazing property! We were 3 families and truly we 100% enjoyed our stay at the Old Mill Manor. House is spectacular, with so much character. Lots of space to feel like you are on a private vacay even when with big group of people. We cooked at the property and there wasn't one thing that was missing in the kitchen. Pool is amazing, river is beutiful and neighbourhood is nice and quiet. Owners were great and very helpful. They gave us all the privacy we needed!

| Dear Julie Thank you and Gary for making our stay a beautiful one. The house was so clean and spacious and the pool and hot tub really made our holiday just perfect. Loved that the kids were able to fish and also canoe along the river. We did not do much sight-seeing as we just wanted to languish in the pool and hot tub. We appreciate the amenities and your assistance while there. We will always remember our holiday at Old Mill Manor during the pandemic.

| We had a great weekend at the Old Mill Manor. Gary and Julie were there to Welcome us and show us around the house when we arrived and showed us how everything worked. They live next door and are always close by if you need them. The house was very well equipped and comfortable for a large family. The kitchen had all the dishes you could ever require. The beds were very comfortable. There are lots of options for relaxing out doors either around the solar heated pool or by the fire pit. We hope to be back !
