 | | Beautiful cottage on small quiet lake, close enough to shops but far enough to enjoy nature. And, less than an hour from Ottawa!

 | | We stayed here for a week in August, with our dog. We definitely hit an heat wave: a number of restaurants were closed "due to heat" when we went to visit Wakefield, but the lake was excellent. During the hottest of the heat wave, the upstairs was a bit warm, but the bedrooms in the downstairs were okay.
The lake is glass-like still. Amazing. No waves, no power boats. We canoed around it a couple times; it's friendly to someone new to a canoe (or kayak, which was also available at the cottage).

We're a family of four (two kids, aged 13 and 14) and each of us made at least one swim to the island. The lake is great for this type of swimming.

I really appreciated the character of the cottage, and the amount of work that the owner has put into it is obvious. The pictures on cottagesincanada.com website are completely accurate; the cottage has a "warm" and "homey" feel to it.

Aside from Wakefield, we also visited LaFleche caves. Once is probably enough, but doing the Cave Explorer tour (the longer tour) was definitely worth doing as a family!

Note that there is no TV in the cottage. Internet connection was fast and I had no trouble joining some remote work meetings.

Be nice to the hummingbirds and make some fresh hummingbird nectar while there. Do be careful not to leave food on the kitchen table overnight.

A previous review mentioned the driveway. We found the incline comparable to cottages we've rented in Ontario's Haliburton Highlands before.

 | | We had a wonderful stay, perfect for our small family reunion. We really enjoyed canoeing & kayaking on the lake, looking for bull frogs and turtles, swimming and exploring the island. Thank you so much, we will for sure be coming back!

 | | We stayed at this delightful cottage July 16-23 this summer. The description of the cottage was accurate although we were not ready for how charming it would be in person. Loved the decor, complete with antiques and little artful treasures partially hidden in the beams. One of our group's top booking priorities is to have a lake that is good for swimming. (Clear, clean water, no weeds, ability to jump of dock or rocks or walk in to lake) And we found it this year at The Watson Granary!!!! The lake is perfect for swimming (and paddling) and we pretty well had the lake to ourselves all week. The little island across the lake was the perfect spot to sun, swim and watch the ducks and turtles swim by.
The cottage itself is beautiful with a comfortable main level where we could all hang out together yet have room to do our own thing. The bedrooms were very comfortable and there was an abundance of places to sleep. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking large family meals and we enjoyed eating outside on the large deck overlooking the lake.
We really enjoyed our week here!

 | | We rented this cottage with my son's family. There were 4 adults and 3 teenagers. Everyone had a comfortable bed.The cottage is beautiful with its cathedral ceiling, large family dinner table, perfectly stocked kitchen and large patio that allowed us to enjoy the beautiful fall colors. The 'kids' used the canoe and kayak and enjoyed the almost private small lake. It was very peaceful to sit on the dock and watch the beaver going back and forth on the lake. We did do some fishing and I was lucky enough to catch a beautiful trout. The road going into the driveway is steep, but was packed down. The owner is very responsive and was a delight to deal with. I would highly recommend this rental.
