I spent a week with my family at Bradden many years ago, and absolutely fell in love. I've been dreaming of going back, and finally went with my friends in July 2021. It had not changed. Peaceful, rustic, creaky and as charming as ever. We spent our days on the various decks enjoying the sunshine and our evenings playing games in the main cabin. Bradden has enough space that you can be a big group and not feel like you're on each others toes, thanks to the separate cabins. Bradden Island really is one of the most beautiful places I've ever stayed. My friends and I are so excited to spend another week in 2022!!

I'm almost reluctant to post this review. We sure hope that this listing's popularity doesn't making re-booking it impossible! But we have to say that this was just a splendid, memories-of-a-lifetime place. Sure, not having an indoor bathroom is, well, what it is. And when the winds are up, getting to the island can be a challenge. But that's it for the discomfort or iffy factor. Everything else is just as vivid, fun, and soul-strumming as you'd expect. Magical setting, beautifully respected by both the structures and the few respectful day-to-day steps that the owners ask of you. Great cabins, nicely varied and wonderfully sited. My youngest son and I stayed in the kitchen cabin, while his brother, their mutual friend, and their friend's dad stayed in other ones, with the upper cabin (the newest one, in the woods) reserved as a get-away-from-everyone napping/reading oasis. That kept five people on very happy terms for two full weeks. Fine fishing, splendid swimming, fantastic views. The just-offshore wreck is a poignant reminder of how hard-won is current comfort on the Lakes and the Northwoods. The water is amazingly clean & clear, the wildlife plentiful. Didn't see any moose or bears, but there was a great variety of birds (herons, eagles, ospreys), beavers, and deer swimming between the islands at dawn & dusk. Friendly neighbors who respect your privacy. The owners are very friendly and nobly gracious--the perfect stewards of so special a place. So glad this place exists!

We say go for it. Here's a chance to reconnect with the real wonders of Georgian Bay: wilderness, glacier-smoothed granite, windswept pines, big skies, fresh breezes all the way from the mid-West, and the spirits of the bay's peoples and history. This cluster of cabins on Bradden Island is a simple place, amidst a wondrous ecology. Don't expect ?stuff? to get in your way, like microwaves, hot showers and big screen TVs. The kitchen and sleeping cabins are straight out of grandpa's fishing trips. And that's the point. In fact, our Oma loved the simplicity, and the easy access, and strolling up and down the endless boardwalk, and the sunsets, and watching the storms roll in from the upper perch, and the swimming, and the board games, and reading on the deck, and?

By the way, this is Mary Anne's place. She was an environmentalist decades before the rest of us awoke from our carbon-induced slumber (she cofounded OWL magazine 40 years ago). And now on Bradden Island her children honour her fierce vision. Worth exploring, discovering, absorbing. And her children are kind of fun, too.

If you are looking for a cottage with all the amenities like electricity and running water, you might look elsewhere. HOWEVER, if you want quiet solitude in a spectacular natural setting, you should consider Bradden Island. This is a very unique property. There is a main cabin with cooking facilities and space for gathering. Despite being off the grid, there is a full size stove and refrigerator, both powered by propane. Four bunkies are scattered around the property, each in a different setting and each with its own personality. Accommodations are comfortable, but be prepared for a few mosquitos. There are two deck areas, one by the cook cabin and the other perched on top of a cliff with a spectacular, unobstructed view to the west. All the buildings, the decks, and the dock are connected by a boardwalk system making for easy travel around the island. Our family has stayed at Bradden Island for several summers and has thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to fish, swim, boat, and just relax in this unique setting.
