Thanks for the review .We assume you are new to traditional cottage life and probably more suited to modern ?cottage? brick built structures with modern conveniences of dish washers and washing machines and satellite dishes and the internet ... there are plenty of these around if you are happy with that sort of ambience and , of course, price.
That's not what we offer and describe at Deepwood ...a secluded woodland lakeside, rustic 90 year old wooden cottage ? with a refrigerator, stove, microwave and hot water shower supplied with lake water
Deepwood is situated at the quietest part of a clean, clear 9 mile lake and, due to its age, very close to the clear blue lake. The cottage is north facing and thus sheltered from most sunlight by being surrounded by tall trees of spruce and fir and maples and birch - as reflected by the small amount of moss on the roof, as shown in the photos.
As to the cottage itself, if you take time to watch the videos, it is wooden construction and built around the original stone fireplace. Winters being what they are up north, cottages were built above the frozen ground and thus the fireplace has been restored and stabilized with concrete, albeit leaving the cottage with a quaint sloping mantelpiece and floor area.
During COVID we have had very full seasons and we have prioritised, during the rapid turnaround cleaning time, the sanitizing of most common surfaces rather than the windows ? people spend most of their time out of the cottage either fishing for the plentiful bass, or swimming to the diving raft or canoeing the lake or just wandering in the woods!
As to fixture issues...all windows are bug-screened and generally kept open to take in the woodland scent and breeze - the latch you refer to will be replaced now we have been informed...and the veranda screen door, usually a surprise to most dogs who are welcome to stay , is regularly fixed.
If you are looking for all mod-cons, a suburban house on a lake ....Deepwood is not for you. If you are looking to get away from the city to the quiet of the woods and the lake with your own music, board games, the quiet of the forest and, of course , a bit of Canadian history ....Deepwood is your place.
