The Red House is located on the harbour, just outside the town limits of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Lunenburg. Located on a quiet dead end street, the house faces southwest and offers a stunning view of Lunenburg's harbour, golf course and the spectacular evening sky. It is only a two minute drive or an easy walk to buy a morning newspaper, to shop for groceries or to take advantage of the many restaurants, unique shops and other amenities in the historic town centre.
The house is exceptionally spacious, bright and comfortable, ideal for a family vacation. Large principal rooms, a cosy den and roomy bedrooms make living in the house a delight, and the original wide plank floors, large windows and abundant folk art only contribute to The Red House's relaxed, cottage charm. A large lawn sweeps close to the water's edge and offers a perfect viewpoint for watching the daily activity of the harbour and the comings and goings of scallop boats, schooners, Tall Ships, and, of course, the beloved Bluenose II.

This fall we had the good fortune of staying at the affectingly named 'Red House' for two weeks. The Red House sits directly on the harbour with the very best views of the Lunenburg waterfront. Each morning, with our coffees in hand, we watched the Bluenose sail out for its morning run. It was difficult to tear ourselves away from the house and its' incredible views to do our daily tours of the area. But when we did manage to venture away from the Red House, we spent our days walking around Lunenburg visiting different restaurants, shops, and watching all of the action along the working docks of the harbour. The walk into town is a perfect distance. It is just far enough out of town to feel like you are getting a small amount of exercise, and close enough to feel comfortable walking home with ease after a night out on the town.
The house itself is charming and warm in both coziness and actual heat temperature. We were concerned that an old house like this might be drafty, but it proved to be a futile concern. It was very comfortable for us, our new baby, and our elderly family members. The owners were very helpful and have they have created a nice Nova Scotia vibe with fantastic folk art. All the amenities are in excellent condition and all the bedrooms offer a lot of choice for a variety of views and character. We have visited Lunenburg in the past and have always walked by this house in admiration. We will certainly come again and stay at the idyllic Red House.

The Red House exudes the character of a well-loved friend. Beautifully proportioned, light filled, airy rooms open to views of Lunenburg harbour and surrounds.
Each room is tastefully decorated with quality, comfortable furniture. Selections of folk art enhance this welcoming home - the best of the Maritimes.
Every detail has been thought of and provided by the amenable owner - from well-maintained kitchen equipment, utensils and necessary provisions to large, absorbent bath towels, premium bath washes and soaps to extensive information on Lunenburg and all it has to offer.
This is truly a home away from home. One so well situated within Lunenburg that you'll be inclined to walk everywhere, just like they did back in the day. After taking in the many quaint sites and interesting shops, we wanted to go back to our cozy Red House to relax and enjoy.
If you're looking for the best in authentic Maritime experiences, don't hesitate to rent this house.

This summer was our second year staying at The Red House and we love it! Excellent location overlooking Lunenburg Harbour, easy walking distance to downtown and all of the amenities and sites, wonderful authentic Lunenburg home with lots of space, period features and charm --- we are a family of 4, and this year we also brought along my sister and nephew and there was plenty of room for everyone. Owner is very accommodating and has lots of great tourist information available, and next door neighbor Dave is a great resource and very helpful! Linens, beds very comfy, bathroom, kitchen very well stocked, open living space with windows overlooking harbor magical!!

We are fortunate to have stayed at the Red House three times! This sensitively renovated classic Lunenburg house is decorated with tasteful furniture and whimsical folk art. The house itself is fantastic for small or large groups of people. There are so many arrangements for sleeping accommodations! With our girlfriends everyone had their own room, and with our Toronto friends we were able to accommodate a couple of early risers in their own little two bedroom with ensuite, with private direct stair access to the main floor. The house is very spacious, with a big living/dining room area as well as a cosy den for watching TV or movies on a rainy day. The kitchen was well equipped with everything needed to cook meals . We especially loved the outdoor space! Lots of options to relax and visit over cocktails, from the cosy space outside the front door, to the beautiful front lawn overlooking Lunenburg Harbour. The Muskoka chairs and small tables provided comfortable seating for watching the small ships and boats coming into the harbour in the early evening. The location of the Red house is perfect for touring the South Shore. Hirtle's beach is great for hiking, and some of us braved the cool water! We enjoyed taking the LeHave cable ferry over to the bakery, and the LeHave Marine Museum is a must see ? an out of the way gem! The owner is extremely friendly and accommodating, and the next door neighbours are very friendly and helpful. We highly recommend a visit!

I thoroughly enjoyed my week at the Red House. I was on my own and loved all the space and tranquility. I felt completely safe. I chose a bedroom with a view of the water and watched boats glide in and out of the harbour. A bald eagle also made a daily pass by the house. A short walk into town and the great shops and restaurants. As you walk home the buzz of the town disappears and all is quiet and serene. The house is well-equipped with everything you would need. Lunenburg is a great town to explore with great walking trails and is close to many other scenic locations such as Mahone Bay, Blue Rocks, and Hirtle Beach. I'm going back!
