Just a couple of hours from Toronto, nestled in 25 acres, this tri-level, open, light-filled 2,800 sq. ft. lakefront home in the woods provides ample opportunity to enjoy any season with friends, family and pets. Windows throughout the house, allows one to soak in magical sunrises over the serene waters of Sandy Lake. As the sun rolls overhead, cool down with a swim or two in the turquoise waters of Sandy. As the call of geese and loons usher in the setting sun, gather around the fire, creating memories under the brilliant, star-filled night sky. With two living rooms, a dining area, loft, and children's playroom downstairs, there's enough room for kids, teens and adults to spread out. The five bedrooms and three bathrooms provide ample elbow room for a comfortable get-away, whether 2 days or 2 weeks, no matter the season. The property and surrounding areas are ideal for hikes, bikes, walks, and runs. Dogs have copious smells, sounds, and space to keep them busy too. This small, contained lake is ideal for various water activities - splashing, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and more. Within minutes of a short drive, Sandy Beach nearby, is a favourite among many. NOTE: Given that the property is on the Canadian Shield, the path down to the lake may be challenging for some, and a welcome treat for the adventurous, nature enthusiast. Please review the pictures of the path down to the lake to gauge the effort. The place is also within a short drive to Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park (officially called Kawartha Highlands Signature Site), a 375-square-kilometre (145 Sq. Mi) area of preserved wilderness and recreational area, the second largest single area of preserved land in the southern part of the province after Algonquin. The park offers many lakes for canoeing and trails for hiking. Nearby towns rich in culture and activities include Buckhorn, Lakefield and Bobcaygeon.

| Stayed at this cottage with our family for the last week of July and had a fantastic stay. Saw some rumblings from other reviews about the trek down to the lake but it was well worth it as the lake was great. Grandkids had a fantastic time on the Lily Pad while the adults enjoyed the floating dock. The accommodations were ideal and due to busy days everyone slept well. Would recommend this property to friends and family any time. Great property ,well maintained.

| Beautiful setting surrounded by nature. Lots of room to spread out inside. Two of us were there for a Zoom Yoga Retreat. We were able to set up on the lower level & be completely undisturbed in an area with 2 walls of windows looking out to the property...very zen. It was so warm one day we even did Yoga on the back deck overlooking the lake. Others in our party went hiking & cycling on local trails, etc. The area is rich in natural resources & opportunities.

| Great stay for pets to play! And their families of course! We had a wonderful time watching the most incredible sunrise, late evenings by the bonfire, hikes with the pooches and family dinners. There was no need to even venture out as we stayed occupied all of the nights. I would definitely recommend this cottage to large families with petSSS - as it can definitely accommodate more then one :)

| Our party of six people (ranging in ages from 24 to 62) had a fabulous time at the Orange Fox Retreat. The property is fantastic, tons of space. We loved the lake, great for swimming and canoeing. The dock was one of our favourite spots for enjoying the serenity of the area, and just relaxing. The cottage is huge, very spacious and very accommodating. The kitchen and adjacent dining room were great for preparing and having our meals. The bedrooms were also large and comfortable. Every night we sat around the firepit, having amazing fires and watching the sun go down. A great time to chat, laugh, and share stories, which we rarely get to do in the big city. Highly recommended, a great cottage for kicking back and taking it easy.

| Lovely, large, open house - beautiful setting. Lots of windows - in the morning as the cottage faces east bedroom curtains let a lot of light in very early! Great decks surrounding house. Large open common area with great views. Kitchen has everything and is well organized. Beds very uncomfortable - like sleeping on a block of wood. Outside - nice yard - good for tossing games. Nice deck in yard, lovely views, but it badly needs a table. Hard to balance food & drinks on the railing. Floating dock great for swimming - lake lovely & clear. Views are great. We enjoyed kayaking on the lake, but bring your own kayak. The one available is dreadful. The one thing we were not really alerted to until we got the welcome package was the challenge getting down to the lake - has to be descended to get to the dock for swimming (there is no beach). Very steep 100+ steps down & up to/from the lake. Half of the trek is wooden stairs with railings, the other half rock ?steps? with nothing to hang onto. Some of the rocks move. Very challenging for some. You are certainly not accessing the lake multiple times a day & if you bring a kayak/canoe you will have to launch it 3km away at south end of lake and paddle up to the cottage dock. Saw the legendary orange fox for which the place is named - loping through the dock area as I was swimming just off the dock. Beautiful!

Owner response: Bruce, thank you for the descriptive articulation of our property. Our compliments. Your comments of the beds are noted and we are working on making it ?softer?. The climb down to the lake does require effort, given that the property sits on the Canadian Shield, unfortunately it is the natural habitat of the terrain. There are couple of pictures on the site portraying the path down and the steps. We will make sure to add more pictures of the path to the lake and describe it to ensure those looking for a beach, expecting easy in and out of the property to the lake, and weak knees or tender feet are not caught off-guard. We are delighted you saw the legendary orange fox. She/He was one of 3 pups with her mum when we moved in there 2 years ago. | |
