Mahine's & Michael's cottage is nestled in beautiful surroundings of pastures, mountains and lake. You have an opportunity to do as little as sitting on the deck and watch deers come by to snack on apples and cherries or take a rowboat on the lake to explore or fish or climb to near waterfall. The charming log cabin is well equipped for indoor/outdoor cooking and entertainment. You don't need to bring anything except your cameras to capture the beauty of the location. We will definitely come back.

My family and I have stayed at Mike and Mahin's cabin twice now in the summer. It's a great retreat and a great way to get outside with our family. The cabin has everything we needed for our stay; it's comfortable inside, with a real wood-burning fireplace. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and cookware, and there's a BBQ outside. At night, we usually stay in and play board games or read books around the fire.
One of our favorite things about this cabin is the location and the surrounds. The cabin sits off of Gates Lake itself by a few minute walk, all on the property. And all around are trees and open grassy areas, where there's lots of wildlife, notably a small family of deer that is out in the morning grazing and snacking on the apple trees near the front door.
At the lake, there's a table and chairs set aside from Mike's house, just for the cabin use. There's also a paddle boat and a canoe, and my family and I have spent many hours in them, paddling and peddling along, and also using them to go fishing in the lake. We've gotten a bunch of bites but haven't actually caught a fish yet. There's also an eagle nest in one of the tallest trees near the lakeside by Mike's cabin.

Mike and Mahin are great hosts; on our first visit they brought out a bowl of fresh cherries for my son, which was really nice. Mike also setup a badminton net for us to use.

Overall, we really enjoy our time at the cabin, and we look forward to going back every year.

This log cabin was everything I had hoped for. We stayed there for a family getaway in late July. My kids (both 8), wife and myself had a great time when we were there. The cabin itself was clean and well cared for, the lake and surrounding wilderness was breathtaking.

In the mornings we would eat breakfast on the deck whilst a family of dear would be eating their breakfast a few meters away. When we would laze around the, picturesque, lake a bald eagle or two would hang out in the trees near us. Wonderful stuff.

There is a beautiful waterfall that you can hike to, though it is a couple of hours round trip and it is mostly uphill, but my two kids did make it so it is not too hard.

Just to be aware there is an active train track near the property and at that time of year we had maybe one or two trains a day go past. This may bother some but for those of us who like the sight and sound of trains this was fun to watch.

We will definitely be heading here again one day.
