The Cottage

Big Straggle Lake offers year-round fishing, great swimming, and we have a rowboat and two pedal boats that you may use to explore the lake, several islands, and even a hidden passageway to Little Straggle Lake. Our dock is large enough for sunning yourself on hot days or just hanging out with friends on the chairs and picnic table. There is a fire pit overlooking the lake with plenty of seating to host your party (and firewood at the ready), and a grassy area beside the cottage on which lawn games can be enjoyed. We have a full size kitchen with a double sink, microwave, stove/oven, full-sized fridge, and BBQ for you to enjoy. At your disposal are many other personal appliances such as a coffee maker, toaster, Actifry (alternative to deep-fryer), George Foreman grill, and blender. There is plenty of storage space for whatever you bring up as well. The living room has a widescreen TV, DVD player, and VCR. There is a small TV, DVD player, and VCR in the first bedroom (the one with four bunk beds). We have lots of VHS tapes and a few DVDs to watch, books to read, and games to play, should you find yourself stuck inside on a rainy day or need something to do in the evening. In the living room, there is also a wood-burning stove to which you may curl up to after you build yourself a fire in the evening.

The following are some tips for enjoying our cottage:

Linens & Towels - Please bring your own linens (or sleeping bags) & towels. Supplied for you at the cottage are pillows, comforters, duvets & duvet covers, extra blankets, and pillow & mattress protectors.

The cottage and grounds were exactly as shown and described.
The cottage was clean and comfortable.
The use of the boats was great for our 2 children (11 & 9) the swimming platform also got a lot of use. We fished off the dock each night and kids were excited with every catch.
Communication(s) with the owner was efficient.

If you are looking for a relaxing vacation rental you have found it.

6 stars is how I would rate HAZENBERG Hideaway. I had the pleasure to correspond with Darryl. His responses are quick. He is also very flexible and was helpful in meeting our needs. There were no surprises or things to figure out because Darryl is so well organized. The cottage has everything there to meet your needs and it sure made our stay a peaceful one. It was exactly what we needed. Our autistic son was quite sad to leave amd says it was the best part of his summer.

I cannot stress that the photos in these pictures do not capture the beauty of this cottage. When we first arrived we quickly walked to the back balcony and what a view it was , I was amazed of the beautiful view of the quiet lake , hummingbirds flying around sipping from the hanging nectar platform and some chipmunks that would come to feed from your hand, the kids loved it and called them Alvin , simon, and Theodore lol. The inside of the cottage was amazing also, very clean , the rooms were very nice , the kids room had plenty of games. The kitchen has everything you need and I mean everything. My family is Italians so of course we had to make some lasagna and pizza, they every utensils you need lol even a cheese shredder. The cottage has excellent flow of hot water and cold. The best part of the living room which the adults like was all the vhs tapes of 80s-90s movies which all loved growing up and now we were letting the kids watch now. They found it really funny watching teenage mutant ninja turtles, they weren't even born yet when the original came out. Now the docks was amazing also. Plenty of room on the dock, it had muskoka chairs and a picnic bench. They have 2 kayaks , 2 paddle boats, and a rowboat. The water was very nice to swim in, the kids loved jumping off the floating platform and Darryl was also nice enough to setup a floating bouncing/slide for the kids too. The fishing you will freaken love it, we got tons of BASS and perch . Bass up to 4-5 lbs. 5 STARS!!

We stayed here last summer and had an amazing time.. We were lucky enough to be invited back up this summer after there was a cancelation.
It was cloudy and rained most of the weekend, but we still had a great time fishing for monster Bass and very nice sized yellow perch which there are tons of just out a bit further in front of the dock. Darryl and Andrea, came by to install a brand new floating dock and on our last afternoon there, the sun came out a bit and the kids had fun jumping off of it into the lake. Also had fun taking the new kayaks out around the island. The lake is shallow enough (knee high) and safe for kids to play right around the dock..the water was quite warm too.
The cottage has everything you need and more... there's a shelf full of board games in the bunk bed room, and a good selection of movies to watch if cannonballs off the new floating dock are not your thing :P

Looking forward to staying here again next summer if we don't find a cottage of our own .

Thanks again Darryl and Andrea for being great hosts !

Our stay at this cottage was absolutely amazing . This cottage has every single thing you need to make it easy to "live in".
We spent many hours paddle boating, swimming, fishing, and kayaking all over the lake. My 6 and 3 year old had so much fun and had there been a rainy day, they would have so many things to do inside. These people have thought of everything. The only bad part was that we had to leave, I could have stayed forever.
