The Crane-Blackstone lake chain is a wonderful little secret just south of Parry Sound. Sprinkled with islands, bays and channels, Blackstone Lake has a few drive-to cottages but specializes in water-access cottages. One such cottage is One Song Retreat. This cottage is located at the South end of the lake, tucked neatly away in Lawson Bay. The boat ride from the dock is easy - less than 10 minutes - and the cottage site perched on a ridge facing south. Anglers will want to bring their tackle - there is great bass, northern pike, walleye, muskie and lake trout fishing on the lake
There is a deck at the cottage as well as the dock, so sitting and enjoying the waterfront and view can be done at a level of your choice. Please note that although there is a lift shown in some photos, it is not available for guest use. As such, those who are unable to ascend/descend a large staircase in comfort may not be suited to this cottage.
Let's step inside - while we're going in the door, you'll notice the bunkie to one side. We'll talk about that more in a bit...for now we step into the living room, complete with a TV and a woodstove, in case the nights turn cool. Off to one side there is a bedroom sleeping 3, with a double/single bunk combination. On the other side of the living room is the 3-piece bathroom with a tub as well as a washer/dryer. Next to this is the main bedroom, and this might be the one you want to claim as it enjoys it's own private screened sunporch overlooking the lake. The dining table is set in a nook with floor-to-ceiling windows to take maximum advantage of the lake view. OK, let's head over a boardwalk to the bunkie. It enjoys yet another fabulous lake view from its own deck. It boasts a queen bed, sitting area, a kitchenette and 4-piece bathroom with a shower.
Outside, there are plenty of spots to claim for a great view of the lake, or your group may wish to avail yourself of the play area - badminton/volleyball court with sports equipment available (badminton racquets, volleyball, frisbee, soccer ball and yoga mats) . A fire pit awaits the most traditional of cottage activities - the evening marshmallow roast.
This is one of those cottages at which you just want to hang out and relax, but if you do want to head into town, you will find Parry Sound to have all you could ask for. We always recommend Bearly Used Books (especially at the start of the week). There are restaurants and shops in the downtown area and the bay front boasts scenic views, waterfront dining and the Stockey Centre. If you are fortunate enough to be around for the Festival of the Sound in July, we recommend timing your city time with a concert or two.

The dock provides great swimming, with a ladder for easy entry and exit. The lake provides great fishing, with Bass, Northern Pike, Walleye, Muskie and Lake Trout all found on the lake!
