In Ojibwa, Magnetawan means 'swiftly flowing water', but in this tranquil location just 10 minutes west of Burks Falls, the river is anything but swift as it meanders gently along tree-lined banks with just the otters, kingfishers and the odd canoeist for company.
And there is little to beat a still and starry night with the reflection of a full moon outlined on the water. That is cottage country magic!
Moonlight Cottage is on a dead-end road with just a few cottage neighbours shielded by hedgerows and trees. This hidden gem will suit those looking for peace, quiet, and serenity at any time of the year.
There is shallow water at the riverside although it's a little soft underfoot and water shoes are recommended; and deep water for swimming off the dock. The waterside deck is perfect for watching the river gently drift by, or you might prefer taking a chair to the dock along with a fishing rod and a beverage!
The main cottage deck is comfortably furnished with seating under the shade of an awning or in the gazebo for outdoor dining.
Inside, the accommodation is all on one level. The master bedroom and ensuite bathroom is to one end of the cottage with two further bedrooms and family bathroom to the other, with good sized living space in between. The galley kitchen and dining area are to the rear of the cottage with a large living room waterside, with sliding doors onto the deck.
We've always loved the tranquility of riverside cottages where the sound of a canoe paddle or beaver slap is more likely than the growl of a seadoo engine. It's the perfect getaway.
Nearby Burks Falls has a grocery store and a few restaurants, while there's some great spots to visit nearby including Screaming Heads, and Arrowhead Provincial Park. When you book we'll send a digital guide with plenty more information.
