Enjoy the sand and surf of the 4 spectacular beaches of the Eastern Shore or the rugged and remote beauty of 4 cycling loops. Then come home and relax with Ocean view in front of a wood stove. In summer, explore Memory Lane for stories of shipbuilding, pirates and clam factories. Enjoy sunsets and walks on the beach and tidal flats. The tidal pool gardens begin at the cottage shore and Clam Harbour beach is about 1 km from the cottage. Clam Harbour Beach is known for its annual Sandcastle Competition http://www.halifax.ca/sandcastle. The cottage is within 30 min drive of Nova Scotia's top surfing beaches Martinique and Lawrencetown. Convenient wet suit and board rentals available at Cannon Beach of Happy Dudes Surf shops. Consider bringing wet suits (MEC) for the whole family and enjoy daylong swims, cliff jumping, or floating down the harbour channel with the tides. Three season suits needed until January.
The cottages' location on the seashore provides a natural playground with crabs, Irish moss, sweet grass, and soft shells clams just waiting under the surface of the sand. At low tide, if you bring a shovel you can dig for clams, explore the tidal flats leading to the ocean or hike along the rocky ocean shore at the provincial park. Ideal for family vacations, couple getaways or writing retreats. In Oct-Nov and April-Jun we offer writer/artist retreat discounts on monthly rates.
The harbour and inland islands provide excellent kayaking and shore birding with osprey, peregrine falcons and bald eagles. Little Harbour, a charming fishing village is only 5 km away and its government wharf provides an opportunity for fishing. Isolated sandy beaches and hidden coves make for great getaway trips. Fishing nearby at Owl's Head or Little Harbour Wharves.
This cottage is fully insulated and has ductless heating and air conditioning, 3 bedrooms on the second floor with spectacular ocean views. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed.
