Description
|
Our lovely 2-bedroom cottage in Ochre Pit Cove is a cozy place to relax and enjoy life in a genuine Newfoundland fishing village. We are an hour and a half from the St. John's Airport in Conception Bay North. This cabin is right on the Atlantic Ocean. It is a very comfortable bungalow decorated with original Newfoundland art and loaded with charm. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you could need to bake, cook and eat. All you need to bring are your groceries, which you can buy on your drive out in Carbonear.
The dining room seats 6, and has a deck off the back that faces the ocean so you can watch the whales spout or breach while you eat your breakfast. The living room on main floor has a comfortable couch and library chairs, and a beautiful view of the colourful salt box houses across the street. The main floor also has 2 bedrooms. The first bedroom has a double bed and the second bedroom has a queen bed, and both have new and luxurious mattresses and superior linens. The bathroom has a shower/tub.
The basement has a fully equipped laundry room for your convenience. There is also a family room with a fold-down couch (clik-clak) which is perfect for 2 children or an extra adult guest. The family room has digital TV and a DVD player. The house has an Apple iMAC computer with high speed wireless Internet and there is free, unlimited long distance within North America.
Ochre Pit Cove is a little fishing village along the North Eastern coast of the Avalon Peninsula, and more specifically along the Baccalieu Trail in Conception Bay North. Within the village you can walk a minute up the road to see the old weather-worn graveyard. If you walk two minutes down the road the other way, you will come to the wharf and fish plant. Here you can watch the fishing boats come and go, meet the local fishermen, and watch as they have their catch hauled up. Another path will lead you to the beach where you can see the Ochre cliffs. The beach is a place to explore the tide pools, skip rocks, and in the evening you can bring down some firewood and have a little fire on the beach (bring a bucket to put out the fire when you are done please). The area is full of hiking and ATV (quad) or biking trails that you can explore. During late summer, you can walk outside your door, sit down with a pail, and pick blueberries.
If you want to swim, Northern Bay Sands park and beach is a three minute drive and Salmon Cove beach is about 10 minutes the other way. Also well worth taking a drive around the multitude of outports that dot the coast around the bay.
