Description

Visit our website at: http://www.neasamartin.ca/Cottage_rental - lots more pictures and information on local adventures.
When inquiring about rentals - please send your phone number and the number of people in your party. Thanks. There is a two day minimum rental off season and one week during the summer.
This comfortable, 2 1/2 bedroom cottage is available for weekend , weekly or monthly rental. Located on a secluded hill over looking the Drag River, you will enjoy sunsets from the enclosed/screened porch and be soothed by the musical babble of the river. The path meanders down to the river rapids and there is a wide open area for river swimming (in warm weather). There are lots of lakes close by for lake swimming and canoeing. The cottage can comfortably sleep seven adults in the summer/ six in the winter.
This cottage is best suited for adults looking for a quiet retreat. Close to the Haliburton School of Fine Arts - this is a perfect artists retreat. Study by day and enjoy the evenings by the river. The Haliburton Highlands offer something for everyone. From outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, golf, horseback riding, and kayaking to cultural attractions like local artists' studios, heritage museums, and art galleries.
Waterfront: River side rapid opening into large pond. Great river swimming or tubing down the river.
There is a huge wrap-around screened porch with north, west and south facing views. The porch has a comfortable sitting area and large harvest dining-room table (seats 10) for having meals 'al fresco'. In cooler weather French doors replace the screening. There is a single bed on the porch perfect for naps, guests and quiet reading.
There isa s cosy living room and dinning room with central wood-burning stove. DVD, VCR, Radio/ CD/ Tape Player and IPod speakers, and telephone. There are lots of movies available to watch and music to listen to. French doors lead off to the porch.
Master bedroom has double-size bed and there is a single bed in an adjacent alcove. There is also a small balcony off the master bedroom for quiet morning coffee.
Second bedroom is small with a double size bed.
An additional single bed is located on the screened porch for al fresco sleeping. The porch is surrounded by beech trees making it feel like a tree house. Great for afternoon naps!
There is running water and a three piece bathroom with shower. This is turned off in the late fall. In the winter bottled drinking water is provided.
There is a large, attractive and fully outfitted kitchen with new maple hardwood floor. There is a barbecue on the front porch.
Outdoor front porch with seating.
A fire pit.
Canoe and life jackets. River tubing is available.
This is a smoke free cottage!
Pets are welcome. However owners are responsible for picking up after their pets and any damages caused to the property.
For winter enthusiast there are miles of groomed cross country skiing, snow mobile trails, downhill skiing, snow shoeing, luge and dog racing! There are miles of groomed ski trails and an elaborate skidoo network through the country side. For further information visit our website by clicking the website link below.
Winter at the cottage is a different experience. THE MAXIMUM NUMBER IT CAN SLEEP IS SIX PEOPLE
First when there is heavy snow you need to walk in (about five minutes) pulling your supplies by sleigh if the snow is deep. We keep sleighs by the road entrance. This is not as hard as it sounds. The beauty is that you may be the only people on the lane and the peace and quiet is amazing. There is a wood burning stove and a kerosene heater. It takes a while to completely warm up but we just wrap ourselves in the electric blanket, listen to music, read books and drink wine. Not too onerous!
Water is also turned off in the late fall. In the off season bottled drinking water is provided and the snow/river provides all the additional water you need. There is a porta-potty in the cottage washroom for night time use as well as a lit outhouse. So you need to be hardy sorts of people to enjoy this kind of adventure. If you are looking for a Canadian wilderness retreat - this is it!

Reviews:
The cottage was absolutely beautiful. I set out on a trip seeking inspiration for a writing assignment - and I certainly got it. The surrounding area was gorgeous, the running river out front was spectacular and the raging fire was a great place to write.
This is a great place for families or solo retreats.

My husband and I recently stumbled upon this wonderful little retreat deep in the woods. A winter getaway that was well worth the 2 hours drive. The cottage was full of charm inside and out and the land was breathtaking! We were able to take advantage of all the winter fun offered there: fishing, snow shoeing, cross country skiing and ski dooing.
I cannot wait to return to our new little paradise; winter and summer. The only question is whether to include the kids or keep it our secret!
Thanks so much, Neasa!

I am writing to let you know that we had a blast during the weekend. The cottage is really nice, better than it looks in the pictures. We will definitely consider coming back during the summer time. I'm sure it would look amazing next to the lake.

Thanks for letting us come up to your cottage. We had a great time! What an awesome place. Swimming in the river was so much fun.

We had a wonderful time! Your cottage is so warm and cozy. I just love your decorating style. It was a lovely time and a very charming cottage. The memories are awesome. We hope to get up again in the fall.

Just letting you know your cottage is really beautiful and I just loved the area. It was hard to leave today. I would love to rent it again in the summer. The cat complained the whole trip in the car, and disappeared for a few hours when we got there. But after the fire got going, she was fine with a warm place to sit by. I think my dog enjoyed it the most - he pulled in one of the sleighs for us. It was so fun, we went to the town and bought one too in the bait store. I actually enjoyed the winter get away - it's so beautiful with all the snow. And yes the front porch is spectacular - I can imagine how nice it is in the summer. Made us want to buy a cottage too.
Jennifer, Ottawa, Feb. 2011
Thank you for the cottage rental. It is a beautiful spot, very nicely decorated with so many cute things to look at. It was nice to use the skis, neither of us have skied since we were kids! It was a perfect spot to celebrate our anniversary. Thank you for making it such a comfortable place to stay We really enjoyed our time here
Nalle & Johnny, USA Feb. 2011
What a great time we had! Everything about this cottage and river has been exceptional. We've had lots of great meals... the kitchen was perfect. Most of our time was spent sitting down by the river reading, sipping wine and enjoying all of the life - the otter, osprey, herons, pileated wood pecker, snapping turtle... Randy was on the water every day with his fly fishing rod catching small mouth and perch. We both feel very, very lucky to have found this place. It was truly a sanctuary! The sound, smell and feel of the river and vegetation has been so rejuvenating.
Trish & Randy, Toronto Summer 2010
This past October my husband and I spent a glorious weekend at Fallen Oaks. I could not stop myself from taking photographs of everything ? I felt like I had come home.
